Product of the week + Should you stop using Retinol during your pregnancy?

Retinol has become so popular in the skincare industry and so many people rave about this ingredient. But should you continue using it during your pregnancy?

WHAT IS RETINOL?!

Retinol is part of the Retinoids family and is derived from vitamin A. They are mostly used for skin care and acne treament. You can use them orally (pills) or directly on your skin with creams. For the oral form, most people may know them by Accutane which is popular for acne treatment. When it comes to creams, you can find retinol in eye creams, moisturizers, serums, masks, anti-aging creams and basically anything you can apply on your face.

RETINOL AND PREGNANCY

You’re probably wondering why this may not be good if it’s derived from vitamin A… Vitamin A used in high doses is actually dangerous for the baby. When it comes to Retinoids in the ORAL form, it is forbidden for the moms-to-be! This ingredient can cause birth deffects so you’ll want to stay away from it! For the TOPICAL use, doctors suggest to avoid them during your pregnancy. Β Why? Since it is absorbed by your skin, it may go into your bloodstream also.

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK: RETINOL-FREE MOISTURIZER

My favorite product right now is the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel. I’ve been using this product for 4 months now and I can’t live without it! My face becomes easily oily and this moisturizer doesn’t make it oily! Another benefit I love from this one: it is pregnant friendly and doesn’t contain retinol!
